“It cannot be stressed strongly enough that planned service maintenance is vital to maintaining the optimum efficiency of any HVAC system. It is especially important to take this onboard given the current climate of rising energy costs, and a Government committed to radically reduce the nation’s Carbon Footprint by 2020. Inefficient plant increases energy consumption to meet demand and incurs higher running costs.”
Planned preventative maintenance, which some might once have considered optional, is now an absolute necessity. “Choosing an effective maintenance schedule/plan may at first glance, appear to add cost, but an inefficient system will also vastly increase operating costs, carbon emissions and greatly reduces the life expectancy of the plant,” says Gareth.
“Failure to incorporate preventative maintenance can result in premature failure of expensive oil pumps, fan motors and compressors. Even refrigerant/solution leaks can be a direct result of poor or no maintenance. The potentially expensive system repair costs far outweigh those of an agreed programme of service/maintenance and over the lifetime of the plant can save thousands of pounds”.
A prime example of an easily avoidable problem with a HVAC system caused by poor maintenance is a blocked condenser coil. Reduced air flow across the coil can eventually cause several severe problems. Subjecting (notably expensive) components like the compressor and fan motors to increased exertion often results in premature breakdown. The resulting high operating pressures can also increase the likeliness of environmental impacting F-Gas/Solution leaks. This problem is easily avoided by instigating a quality maintenance plan.”
